The Manager, Absence Management reports to the Director-Human Resources Operations and is responsible for overseeing and administering the organization’s absence management program (FMLA and ADA), ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, managing return-to-work processes, and supporting employees and managers throughout the leave process.

Responsibilities

  • Understand current ADA/LOA procedures, regulations, and laws with the ability to develop new policies based on organizational needs.
  • Demonstrate an ability to align with and contribute to a shared vision, working collaboratively across teams to achieve common goals.
  • Analyze data to identify trends that could impact staffing, operations, or otherwise support changes to related policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Manage the process for all type of leave, including FMLA, Non-FMLA Medical, ADA, and other leave requests.
  • Participate in the interactive process with employees and managers to determine reasonable accommodations under the ADA.
  • Oversee the process for employees returning from leave, including communication with employees, managers, and medical providers when appropriate.
  • Develop, revise, and implement leave policies and procedures, ensuring they are clear, concise, and consistent.
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors to ensure optimal service delivery
  • Address complex leave and accommodation situations, resolve discrepancies, and escalate issues as needed.
  • Manage a team of support staff, providing training and guidance

 

In this role, the Manager must exercise sound business judgement and handle confidential information with sensitivity. Possessing strong project management, prioritization, and organizational skills is essential. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a team environment and the ability to prioritize work and projects to meet deadlines and objectives. Must be able to work with minimal supervision, report to work regularly and on-time, and be self-motivated.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree or additional higher education is desired.
  • 2-3 years of related work experience
  • Previous leadership experience is a plus
  • Must have the ability to work with multi-level teams in a matrixed environment
  • Very strong organizational skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines with accurate and detailed results.
  • Strong self-starter with initiative, able to take tasks through completion with solid results
  • Proven experience building constructive relationships with internal and external customers
  • Willing and able to work non-standard work schedules when necessary due to business needs
  • Strong ability to interpret information and think analytically to make decisions based on facts presented on a case-by-case basis
  • Ability to manage large data sets and perform analysis to retrieve the critical information
  • Require excellent communication and presentation skills  
  • Knowledge of FMLA, Paid Sick Leave, and ADAAA regulations
  • Possess the legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak, and understand the English language
  • Must possess at least one form of TSA-acceptable identification for business travel purposes.

 

Position Preferences

  • Airline experience in order to understand the business plans of our operational groups
  • Knowledge of a unionized workforce, including: Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and grievance/arbitration process
  • PHR/SPHR certification

Additional Position Details

  • Candidates must fulfill a fingerprint based criminal background check to qualify for escorted access privileges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA), if applicable.
