Responsibilities

  • Respond to Dangerous Goods Incidents / Discrepancies, and to spills in compliance with the company's policies, procedures and training.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Company's Environmental Policies & Procedures.
  • Remain knowledgeable of new information on the Company's Environmental Newsletter and the SSE Website.
  • Inspect Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) and Hazardous Waste Storage Area (HWSA) to ensure they are compliant, clean and have required Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) labels.
  • Monitor waste accumulation in SAA, sealing, removing and labeling full barrels; immediately replace with waste compatible barrels, so as not to cause disruption in base operations.
  • Move drums weighting up to 450 lbs with forklift and hand operated drum dolly.
  • Complete regular inspections of First Aid Stations, Eye Wash Stations, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency/Exit Lighting, Ladders/Work Stands, Spill Kits/Carts.
  • Ensure completion of Fall Protection Systems and Harnesses inspections and work with vendors as required to comply with OSHA requirements.
  • Coordinate the yearly medical testing and perform respirator selection/maintenance/fit testing of employees covered by the respirator program.
  • Maintain the record keeping of the air emissions from facility paint booths.
  • Ensure completion of the various weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly inspections or audits, as well as the yearly update of all facility required plans including; RCRA, Environmental Business Plan (EBP), and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of Management and Union Safety Committee meetings.
  • Assist base management with safety observations in the facilities, investigation of any accident/injuries and work with various departments to eliminate future occurrences.
  • Complete all required State and Federal required reporting.  
  • Conduct facility safety audits.

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Minimum Age: 18
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years working experience with safety and/or environmental compliance
  • Willing and able to work rotating shifts including nights, holidays, weekends, and days off
  • Possess the legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak, and understand the English language
  • Must have a 30-hr OSHA Outreach card
  • Strong managerial skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, written and presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word as well as SharePoint
  • Able to work at various heights
  • Able to work/travel outside of regularly scheduled hours on short notice up to 70%
  • Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language
  • Possess the legal right to work in the United States
  • Must be able to read, write, fluently speak, and understand the English language
  • Experience in writing manuals, policies and procedures
  • Dangerous Goods Certificate (49 CFR/ICAO – IATA)
  • Previous supervisory experience and ground handling operations preferred
  • Experience with regulatory agency interaction, preferred
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, preferred
  • Familiarity with Environmental regulations, preferred
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations, preferred
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations, preferred
  • Ability to concurrently handle multiple responsibilities, preferred
